A Fairytale Wedding at Heidelberg Castle
Some places don’t need much of an introduction. Heidelberg Castle is one of them. Old walls high above the Neckar, the view over the old town, that warm afternoon light. This is where the couple got married, and I had the pleasure of being there as their wedding videographer.
Getting Ready at Hotel Atlantic Heidelberg
At Hotel Atlantic in Heidelberg the dress hung by the wardrobe, the shoes beside it, the rings already laid out. The bride was having her make-up done, music playing in the background, her friends laughing about some old story.
The Ceremony in the Castle Chapel
The chapel at Heidelberg Castle is a special room. A gothic vaulted ceiling, soft light, a quiet that makes everyone lower their voice. When the bride walked in, every head turned. And the groom, waiting at the front, had to swallow hard.
Sunset Drinks on the Schlossaltan
After the ceremony we headed out onto the Schlossaltan, the castle terrace. Anyone who has stood up there knows why: all of Heidelberg lies at your feet, the Neckar glints below, and on this evening the sun slowly dropped behind the hills.Champagne, hugs, congratulations. The couple right in the middle of it, clearly happy. That golden sunset light makes moments like these almost effortless — I just have to be there and press the shutter.
The Reception in the Königssaal
In the evening everyone moved into the Königssaal, the castle’s grand hall. A room with history, beautifully set, candlelight on the tables. A multi-course menu was served, with speeches between courses — some funny, some with a few wet eyes. Then the first dance. The moment the whole room holds its breath for a second. Instead of a playlist, there was live music. Piano and cello, played right there in the room. You hear the difference straight away, and you see it on the guests' faces too. For a wedding film, that kind of real sound is worth its weight in gold.
Later the DJ took over. Ties loosened, the dance floor filled up, and the celebration carried on well into the night.
